Do I have to come to your office?
No. Coming into the office is optional. In the day and age of Skype, FaceTime and extremely busy schedules, teletherapy (over the phone or computer) may work better for you. It is about what you feel comfortable with and what works well for your schedule.
is therAPy conFidential?
In general, the law protects the confidentiality of all communications between a client and a psychotherapist. Information is not disclosed without written permission. However, there are three exceptions to this rule. Exceptions include:
- If there is suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse, the therapist is required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
- If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, the therapist must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
- If a client intends to harm himself or herself, the therapist will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in insuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, further measures may be taken without their permission in order to ensure their safety.
Are there other therapists on your team?
Yes. Joe’s team includes postgraduate/pre-licensed therapist interns who are specifically trained and supervised under him. All cases handled by interns are reviewed and discussed weekly with Joe. This also includes all treatment plans, and client goals. Check out Joe’s team here.
